Geranium Shampoo Bar

This Geranium Shampoo Bar has an intensely floral fragrance, often described as the "poor man's rose". Red clay helps lift away excess oil and everyday build-up. Combined with conditioning ingredients, plant proteins and carefully selected oils and butters, the bar leaves the hair feeling smooth without being weighed down. The result is soft, manageable hair.
Suits: All hair types, particularly those dealing with frizz and tangles.
Formulator's note: Geranium shares several of the same aromatic compounds as true rose oil, at a fraction of the cost. This meant I could include a rose-like scent in the range without it becoming a luxury-only bar. The red clay has a vibrant colour which comes from iron oxide that is naturally present in the clay.
What is a shampoo bar? A solid bar of surfactants, plant oils, butters and clay that lathers hair clean. There are several benefits to using a shampoo bar over a liquid but the top 3 are:
- Little packaging - no plastic bottles to recycle.
- Long lasting - a single bar can last for several months.
- Travel friendly - no liquids and can be bought with a travel tin. This makes them refillable as well.
You can read more on switching to solid shampoo and conditioner in the blog.
Did you know: Geranium essential oil shares several naturally occurring compounds with rose oil, including geraniol and citronellol, which is why the two can smell surprisingly similar.

Curious what these ingredient names mean? We’ve explained the key ones on our About Us page.
Using a shampoo bar for the first time can take some getting used to. Wet your hair thoroughly. You can either swipe the bar directly through your strands a few times and lather, or lather it briefly between your palms first before applying to your head. Work from roots to tips. Rinse thoroughly and repeat if you feel you need a deeper clean.
Each bar is a minimum of 80g and gives roughly 60 washes, working out at about 18p a wash. How far yours goes depends on your hair length and how often you wash. Even washing long hair four to five times a week, a bar can comfortably last three to four months (assuming no one else in the house borrows it!).
A gentle note on care: for external use only. Avoid direct eye contact and application to the mucous membranes or broken skin. If irritation occurs, discontinue use. Not suitable for children under the age of 3.
Watch how to use a shampoo and conditioner bar here.
Leave your bar to dry out fully between washes. Leaving it sitting in a puddle of water is the fastest way to shorten its life. A draining soap dish or a dish with holes works well. Once dry, it’s happy stored in one of our travel tins for the washbag or in the bathroom cupboard.
